I’ve loved working on the majority of my projects—I really have. But certain projects, by some stroke of serendipity or timeliness, or both, stick with me long after they’re finished. This story, on the use of cannabis as an “exit drug” for the opioid epidemic, is one of them.
For this piece, I was hired by the Boston Globe BrandLab as a sponsored content writer. (Weedmaps is the sponsor.) And while journalism purists might turn up their nose at sponsored content, the topic is incredibly timely and important. And the people I interviewed, from medical experts to chemists and people whose lives have been rocked by opioid addiction, offered insights that were, by turns, forward-thinking and heartbreaking. This, along with detailed research to back up the thesis, made for rich storytelling, and a project I’ll remember for years to come.
