This travel copywriting project came about by serendipity. After my tourism story on Gloucester, Massachusetts, ran in the Greylock Glass, we received dozens of comments on the site and on social media from residents who were delighted with how authentically their city had been captured. This is when travel writing feels the most rewarding and valuable, especially when would-be travelers can’t get out to experience a place in person.

Discover Gloucester, the city’s destination marketing organization, got in touch, and asked if they might repurpose parts of the article for their annual visitors’ guide. I hope it serves as inspiration for travelers who are looking to explore—and really get to know—this underrated coastal destination.
